Rev. Dr. Linda shares how she discovered that the 128-year-old "African School No. 4" had been abandoned and falling apart in her town of Chesterfield. She explains how her congregation helped the St. Louis County Parks Foundation painstakingly move the historic landmark to a public park so kids can come and see it for generations to come. The reconstruction of a historic Black schoolhouse is continuing in Chesterfield, with completion possible by the end of the year.
St. Louis County officials are piecing together African School #4 at Faust Park’s Historic Village. It opened in 1894, and county parks officials say it is the oldest surviving one-room schoolhouse for African Americans in the state.

Crews have revitalized a historic African American schoolhouse, and it’s almost ready for tours. The St. Louis County Parks Department and St. Louis County Parks Foundation has been working to rebuild the schoolhouse and add it to the historical village in Chesterfield’s Faust Park.

A 127-year-old one-room school cabin is getting a new home in Chesterfield.
A structure previously known as African School No. 4 in the Chesterfield School District is being relocated from its current location on private land on Wild Horse Creek Road, where it served as a one-car garage, to the Historic Village at Chesterfield’s Faust Park. According to St. Louis County, the property is being donated by Muwafaq Abdel Baset.

With help from St. Louis County Parks Foundation, Chesterfield African American School is relocating to the Historic Village at Faust Park.
The school, formerly known as African School No. 4 in the Chesterfield School District, currently sits on private land on Wild Horse Creek Road.
