She explains how her congregation helped the St. Louis County Parks Foundation painstakingly move the historic landmark to a public park so kids can come and see it for generations to come. “Progress Continues to Preserve Historic Black Schoolhouse in Faust Park”

The reconstruction of a historic Black schoolhouse is continuing in Chesterfield, with completion possible by the end of the year.

St. Louis County officials are piecing together African School #4 at Faust Park’s Historic Village. It opened in 1894, and county parks officials say it is the oldest surviving one-room schoolhouse for African Americans in the state.

“Missouri’s Oldest One-Room African American Schoolhouse Gets A New Chance At Life”

Generations of Black children in Chesterfield made their way through African School No.4 stretching back to 1894. Today, it’s the oldest surviving one-room schoolhouse for African Americans in the state, according to St. Louis County Parks officials. Soon the building will be moved to Faust Park’s Historic Village, where it will be restored.

“History On The Move: One-room schoolhouse en route to Faust Park”

A 127-year-old one-room school cabin is getting a new home in Chesterfield.

A structure previously known as African School No. 4 in the Chesterfield School District is being relocated from its current location on private land on Wild Horse Creek Road, where it served as a one-car garage, to the Historic Village at Chesterfield’s Faust Park. According to St. Louis County, the property is being donated by Muwafaq Abdel Baset.

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — What was once a one-room school will soon have a new home.

With help from St. Louis County Parks Foundation, Chesterfield African American School is relocating to the Historic Village at Faust Park.

The school, formerly known as African School No. 4 in the Chesterfield School District, currently sits on private land on Wild Horse Creek Road.
